Dr Christopher Lauria Discusses Back Pain – Roanoke Chiropractor
Written by on February 20, 2012 in Chiropractic
80% of all people experience low back pain at some point of their lives and over 50% out of those have reoccurring problems that gradually turn into serious conditions. These numbers are staggering. Back pain effects almost everyone and it is reaching epidemic levels. There is alot of confusion as to the causes and treatment options for people suffering with back pain.
My name is Dr Christopher Lauria and I am a chiropractor at Lifestyle Wellness Center in Roanoke Virginia..I treat people with back pain everyday and have been doing so for over 17 years. The causes of back pain don’t have to be complicated as people make them. Even when leaving aside all other possible causes like work, auto or sports injuries, there is still one common thing that happens to most people suffering with this condition.
It all cones down to a word we are all used to hearing- Stress. In this case we are talking about the physical stress we put on our spine. This can be in the form of poor posture, abnormal sleeping conditions, abnormal working conditions, repetitive activity. poor lifting, injuries, car accidents and many more. We put alot of physical stress on our spines especially in the lower back.
It is difficult for this area to handle all the stresses we put on it and we develop structural and bio-mechanical problems which can cause our spines to shift out of the normal position they are supposed to be in.These shifts will cause the nerves that exit in between the vertebra to become pinched and irritated. Once the nerves are effected they can cause the muscles in the lower part of the spine to spasm, tighten and become imbalanced. This complex of problems in the spine is called subluxation and is the cause of most back pain and other associated problems that can cause back pain.
A further complication of subluxation of the spine is that the spine is now out of its normal position and out of balance. Things that are out of balance will wear out unevenly. Is like car tires that are out of their normal alignment will wear out unevenly. Well your spine does the same thing. When it is out of its normal alignment due to subluxation and we continue to physically stress it the degenerative condition will start. This degenerative process will lead to degenerative disc disease, bulging disc and herniated discs in the spine. These conditions are more severe and difficult to work with.
If you are suffering from lower back pain it is important to find out the cause of your problem immediately. One of the problems with these spinal misalignment’s is the can occur=r without feeling the problem all the time. You might have the condition and have pain that comes and goes or not there much at all. You must um=understand that the longer it is there the more chronic the problem can be. Many of the patients that come to my office with back pain and neck pain tell me there pain started a while ago but it was not there all the time so they did not do anything for it. Understand pain is a warning sign that something is wrong, you must pay attention to it. Many patients make the mistake of covering up their symptoms with dangerous medications that do nothing but cover up their symptoms. The problems with this is that it does nothing to correct the cause of the problem and there are dangerous side effects.
It is important the if you are suffering from back or neck pain that you get a complete an thorough evaluation to find out the cause of your problem, At Lifestyle Wellness Center we have all the testing needed to do this. Our evaluation includes computerized nerve and muscle testing, range of motion test and all orthopedic and neurological testing. We also take x ray of the spine to look for patterns of subluxation and to see if there is any desperation present. This initial testing will allow us to develop a care plan to correct the cause of your back pain. This plan could include chiropractic adjustments, spinal decompression, exercises and rehabilitative therapy.
If you are interested in setting up a time for a complimentary consultation and examination in our office just fill out the form here or call out office at 540-725-9501. We will do all the testing needed to find out the cause of your problem($300 value). There is no obligation with this offer and if I can’t help you I will let you know where you need to go for help.
